Southend Borough Council
We won two competitive tenders to install PV on two schools in Southend for the local council:
Temple Sutton Primary School – 207 kWp
This site had a mix of metal and pitched felt roofs, which required a specialist solution to ensure continued weathertightness of the roofs. The panels were linked back to eight Solis inverters in two inverter locations on the flat roofs and then run back to the main intake room.
As this site had an export limit of 100kWp imposed by the DNO, we installed an Argand Export limiting device which monitors the level of export and can shut off individual inverters in sequence to ensure the limit is never breached.
This site also has a GSM meter to enable the council to remotely read the generation, and the inverters have data loggers that are connected via wifi to the schools internet which allows for graphical representation of real time data for everything from overall production to individual performance per string.
Southend Adult Community College – 110 kWp:
This site has multiple East/West tiled roofs on a Victorian build. The panels are linked to four Solis inverters which are also linked via wifi to the internet to enable remote monitoring.
The installation has a GSM enabled meter to allow for remote reading of the generation.
Both sites required bird proofing of the panels, and careful management of the timescales and access planning to ensure the installation did not affect the day to day running of the schools.
